KENNETH HACKER MD, FACS

Originally from St. Louis, Dr. Hacker obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees from Creighton University in Omaha. He completed his general surgery residency at St. Luke's Hospital-Kansas City. He is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He has been with the group since 1996. He performs all aspects of general surgery including laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder disease and reflux.  He has a particular interest in complex hernia repair and often holds courses teaching surgeons various hernia repair techniques.

Dr. Yeager is a board-certified general surgeon who has been with Benrus since 1999. She received her undergraduate degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and her medical degree from Southern Illinois in Springfield. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals in Madison, Wisconsin. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and The American Society of Breast Surgeons. She lives in St. Charles with her husband, Kevin and their two children, Madison and Olivia. Her interests include breast surgery and general surgery.

Dr. Etling is a board-certified general surgeon, who has been with Benrus Surgical Associates since January 2005. Dr. Etling received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin.  She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She lives in St. Louis with her husband and four children, Taylor, Tommy, Addison and Avery. Her special interests include general and laparoscopic surgery.

Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Miller obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Nebraska. He completed his general surgery residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He then obtained a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery from Grant Hospital in Columbus Ohio. He has been with the group since 2008 and is the only board-certified colorectal surgeon in St. Charles County. His areas of interest are colon and rectal surgery including both benign and malignant pathology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons as well as the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

I wanted to share my recent experience as it is not often you find a surgeon that is the "Total Package."

I am new to the area, and Dr Yeager was recommended to me by nurses, staff at BJC, other Doctors, and those that helped me in my research.  

Specifically, she was recommended for not only her expertise and experience but the compassion she demonstrates for not only the patient's surgical needs but the patient.

She provided detailed information that assisted me in understanding my options and allowed discussion and partnering in decisions being made in my path going forward.

"Like most people facing the prospect of a hernia operation, I was a bit overwhelmed by what I was facing. Having never undergone a hernia procedure before and having no experience with what I should be looking for ( -when choosing a surgeon for my operation ), I felt a bit "lost" and disoriented.
Luckily, about that time a friend of mine ( Kate ), who'd known of my situation, suggested that I check out the Benrus Surgical Group at BJC ( St. Peters ). Kate, whose opinion I have great respect for, told me she'd had a procedure done by one of the surgeons at the Benrus Group ( -Dr. Bergmann I believe ), and had nothing but good things to say about them. Kate summed-up her feelings by saying "they're wonderful people".

Well, that left a real impression on me. I decided to check out the Benrus Group online. I was eager to read the "Bios" on their surgeons and find out what each of their specialties were. When I read Dr. Hacker's "Bio" I knew I'd hit "gold". His "Bio" mentioned that he takes a special interest in complex hernias. Well, I knew then that he was the surgeon I'd been looking for! You see, I had been living with my hernia for almost twenty years by that time!

It was an advanced inguinal hernia ( -most pronounced on the right side, less so on the left, and it had descended into the scrotum ). Living with it had become a genuine struggle. In June of 2019' I had an emergency room visit ( -due to the advanced state of the hernia ). I was told then that I HAD to have it attended to before complications set-in and it became "strangulated". Following that, I began my search in earnest to find a surgeon to do the surgery. As mentioned above, Kate's recommendation steered me in the right direction.

So, I set up an appointment to meet with Dr. Hacker and found him to be very positive. Despite the advanced stage of my hernia, he seemed to think it was still "do-able". Frankly, even I had begun to have my doubts. None-the-less, when you're facing such a predicament any optimism offered is welcomed! So, I decided to "latch onto" Dr. Hacker's "positive vibe" and hope for the best. Maybe, Dr. Hacker really COULD perform a miracle and repair my hernia after all. I was curious to find out!
